چکیده

Objective: To determine and compare the cardiovascular responses to three resistance exercise protocols with different volumes and loads. Methods: The study included 15 healthy subjects, experienced in resistance training, who underwent supine bench press exercise with three different volumes and loads separated by 48 hours, with a crossover model: a) 4 repetitions at 90% of one repetition maximum (4/90%), b) 8 repetitions at 80% of one repetition maximum (8/80%), and c) 15 repetitions at 65% of one repetition maximum (15/65%). Immediately following each protocol, measures of heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were performed, and were used to calculate the rate pressure product. Results: The 4/90% protocol resulted in an increase in heart rate ( = 84.57%; effect size [ES] = 0.31), systolic blood pressure ( = 24.03%; ES = 0.42), diastolic blood pressure ( = 8.47%; ES = 0.27) and rate pressure product ( = 129.65%; ES = 0.54). The 8/80% protocol resulted in changes on: heart rate ( = 74.94%; ES = 0.57), systolic blood pressure ( = 20.67%; ES = 0.27), diastolic blood pressure ( = 6.91%; ES = 0.15) and rate pressure product ( = 111.78%; ES = 0.48). The 15/65% protocol resulted in alterations on: heart rate ( = 66.77%; ES = 0.39), systolic blood pressure ( = 16.85%; ES = 0.35), diastolic blood pressure ( = 3.38%; ES = 0.13) and rate pressure product ( = 96.41%; ES = 0.30). Increases in all variables pre to post resistance exercise were observed for all protocols (p < 0.05). When comparing the three different protocols, it was found that the heart rate (p < 0.001), systolic blood pressure (p = 0.034) and rate pressure product (p < 0.001), were more elevated in the 4/90% compared to the 15/65%. Conclusion: The bench press exercise performed with low volume and high intensity promotes a more pronounced cardiovascular response compared to the same exercise performed with high volume and low intensity. © 2017 Consejerı́a de Turismo y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucı́a. Effect of Endurance, Resistance and Concurrent training on the Function of the cardiac of healthy middle-aged women

Background & Aim: Cardiac functional adaptations are affected by gender, age, intensity and type of exercise. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of endurance, resistance, concurrent training on the cardiac function. Methods: Forty healthy middle-aged women (mean age 44/62±3/45 years, height 157/75±4/87 cm and weight 73/27±10/64 kg) were randomly divided into four groups (10 person...

Comparison of the effect of 8 weeks of aerobic and resistance training on lipid profile and blood pressure of inactive obese women with hypertension

Background and Objectives: Lack of physical activity is a worrying condition because it leads to major health problems such as obesity, high blood pressure and various metabolic disorders. Exercise is a lifestyle change suggested to reduce atherogenic markers in adults. Increased physical activity and fitness are clearly associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, but the optimal ...

The effect of high intensity interval training on cardio-respiratory fitness levels, endothelin-1 and Nitric oxide levels in obese individuals

Introduction: Obesity is one of the biggest barriers to health in today's society. Endothelial dysfunction is more common in obese people than in other people and cardiorespiratory fitness is also low in these people. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of HIIT training with weight bearing, without weight bearing, and combined on the levels of ET-1, Nox, and cardiorespiratory fitne...

Effects of eight weeks of aerobic interval training and of isoinertial resistance training on risk factors of cardiometabolic diseases and exercise capacity in healthy elderly subjects

We investigated the effect of 8 weeks of high intensity interval training (HIT) and isoinertial resistance training (IRT) on cardiovascular fitness, muscle mass-strength and risk factors of metabolic syndrome in 12 healthy older adults (68 yy ± 4). HIT consisted in 7 two-minute repetitions at 80%-90% of V˙O2max, 3 times/w. After 4 months of recovery, subjects were treated with IRT, which inclu...
